Your diet may be why you can’t lose weight.
Sound crazy? Not really. People look for a quick fix and nothing inspires the quick-fix glands like the wish for successful weight loss and there doesn’t seem to be any limit to the really stupid diets out there.
Healthy weight loss occurs with a balanced diet. Fat-free diets, carb-free diets or diets that advocate excessive drastically reduced calorie intake are not healthy and don’t promote successful weight loss.
A diet that eliminates fat deprives the body of important nutrients. Omega 3 fats are essential for nutrition and proper body function. It is good to avoid saturated fats and the fats found in processed foods but healthy fats, like those found in fish, nuts or even olive oil provide much-needed nutrients.
Eliminating carbohydrates works on the chalkboard but not in real life. It is true that carbs we consume that aren’t used immediately for fuel get stored as fat by the body but eliminating carbohydrates completely leads to fatigue and will affect mental clarity.
Highly restrictive diets, even ones that are supposedly medically supervised, are a double-edged sword. First, the drastic reduction in calories promotes slower metabolism. Second, the body cannot get the nutrition it needs on some of the more extreme diets that call for 500 calories.
Healthy caloric intake for women is around 1200 calories a day and around 1500 for men. Your activity level may require more. Eating too few calories is a great way to screw up your successful weight loss and is one of the biggest reasons why you can’t lose weight.
If getting a balanced diet is a challenge for you then consider meal replacement shakes. Quality diet shakes give you complete nutrition in a very compact calorie count. They are convenient and perfect for the busy lifestyle or a person who is learning to eat a healthy, balanced diet.
Shakes can not only replace meals for weight loss but also to supplement a healthy meal plan for those who don’t want to lose weight or even for those who have a need to gain healthy weight.
All of us want a magic bullet to solve our problems, even if we won’t admit it. There isn’t any area where this is more prevalent than successful weight loss.
Remember that your weight gain did not take place over night or even in weeks or months. With a healthy diet and good coaching you can expect to see immediate results and over a period of weeks and months move steadily and healthily toward your ideal weight.
Taking a healthy, balanced approach will give you the lasting results you really want and promote wellness and healthy aging.
