Those prepackaged “healthy” meals that you get delivered throughout the month that will “supposedly” help you lose weight are overpriced and believe it or not… unhealthy for you (GO FIGURE)! The reason these things are unhealthy is because most of them are processed and contain lots of sodium.
What I recommend you do instead is very simple. Simply go to your local grocery store and focus heavily in the fruits and veggies aisle first, then (considering you are not vegan or vegetarian) focus on healthy meats (such as grass-fed beef, chicken breast, turkey breast, and fish), and then focus on everything else that is healthy (whole grains, fat-free dairy, etc.).
Many good diet programs are based around eating normal store bought foods so don’t feel as if you have to spend a fortune on prepackaged meals, supplements, or do food shopping in expensive stores (such as natural food stores).
2. Tips for food shopping on a budget…
Wait until the middle of the week to buy fresh fruits and veggies since most markets get their deliveries around this time. This way not only will your fruits and veggies taste better, they’ll also last longer as well. Not to mention, you’ll usually find deals on fruits and veggies at supermarkets in the middle of the week.
Also, to save money on meats, you could get frozen meats (such as frozen chicken breasts and fish). They taste the same, they’re just as healthy, but they last a whole lot longer and are more affordable.
3. Affordable programs…
I find it ironic how most of the more affordable diet programs (as far as the actual price of the diet and also how much money you’ll have to spend on groceries to do the diet) are actually more effective and natural than the more popular, overpriced, and unnatural diets!
