The 5 Deadly Sins Of Starting A Diet Program (And How To Avoid Them)

You’ve had enough. You’re tired of being sick and tired. You’re tired of looking in the mirror and not liking what is looking back at you. So, you get an initial surge of motivation and determination to start a diet program. Then… one to two weeks later… you’re back to square one again! Does this sound familiar? Do you get fired up starting a diet program with tons of enthusiasm… only to end up failing a short time later? If so, read on for the 5 deadly sins of beginning a program… and what you can do to avoid them so that you’ll FINALLY stick to a diet and get the body of your dreams!

1. Not having a clear goal in mind…

A surefire way to reach failure before you even lose your first 5 pounds is to not have a clear goal in mind before starting a program. The reason why is because with a clear goal… comes a strong focus. With a strong focus… comes a ton of motivation. With a ton of motivation… comes 100% consistency (regardless of whatever roadblock is in your way).

Do you want to lose 20 pounds? Do you want to fit your clothes better? Do you want to get in shape for a special event? Etc.? Figure this out and make sure it is a goal that is VERY clear and VERY motivating to YOU.

2. Not ensuring you have continuing motivation…

Initially, most are incredibly pumped up and ready to roll with a diet and exercise program in the beginning. This is perfectly fine. However, if you are not taking care of number #1 above and if you don’t also have continuing motivation, then it is almost 100% guaranteed that you’ll lose interest in getting yourself in better shape.

The solution to this problem is to ensure you keep a constant flow of motivation and inspiration going into your mind. This can be from watching inspirational videos, reading or seeing transformation stories, listening to music that motivates and inspires you, and the granddaddy of them all… GETTING RESULTS! The next 3 tips will cover getting RESULTS…

3. Going on a diet with a “quick fix” approach…

The idea of spending weeks of eating healthier and exercising in the beginning sounds like a daunting task to most. This is what leads most people into wanting a “quick fix” solution. This includes starvation dieting, diet pills, surgery, etc. The problem is that our bodies respond to one thing and one thing only… NATURAL.

If it is not natural, then you can rest assure there will be some type of side-effect. The solution is simple: Stay natural and your body will reward you for it!

4. Choosing a “fad diet”…

This is probably the most popular deadly sin. Companies that design diet programs have gotten very clever these days with how the market their programs. They market these programs with the emphasis placed on them being very different from the rest of the diets out there. What I mean by that is they come up with the strangest diets and they do this because they want people to think that the “old school” way of getting in shape doesn’t work anymore. In other words, they want you thinking that there just has to be some other trick to getting in shape.

My friend, this goes right in line with what I mentioned above about staying 100% natural… or your body will make you pay. Your body does not want you eating one type of food all day, or restricting nutrients too much, or decreasing calories too much, or eating prepackaged, processed, and EXPENSIVE meals delivered to you, etc.

5. Not having a FULL plan…

Eat healthy foods and exercise at least 3 times a week and you’ll get in shape? NOPE! It takes a number of other things that you have to do to ensure you get results… and many people (including myself when I started dieting) make this mistake.

You can definitely count on not seeing consistent or significant results if you don’t include the other missing pieces of the weight loss puzzle. Those pieces are getting at least 7 hours of sleep every night, drinking plenty of water (1/2 your body weight in ounces each day is highly recommended), and decreasing your stress levels.

The reasons why is because getting more sleep will encourage your body to burn more calories and will help with a TON of other things as well. Drinking more water detoxifies your body, removes excess water weight, encourages muscle growth, and much more. And decreasing your stress levels is extremely important if you want to improve your overall health since an abundance of stress actually can contribute to weight gain, overweight related diseases, and so much more (including losing motivation).

Bottom line, if you fix or avoid those things above, then you can certainly rest assure that not only will you get the body you have always wanted, you will get that body quicker than you think.
