Alright my friend, the first thing I wanted to talk to you about is something that caused me issues in the beginning of my journey to get in shape. This “something” was unnatural dieting.
Since I was so desperate to get rid of my excess body fat (I weighed 302 pounds and had a TON of body fat), I did almost everything there was that was unnatural to try and get lightning fast results. I tried out dangerous diet pills, I tried out starving myself, I tried out detoxifying WITHOUT proper dieting, I tried out extreme fitness programs, and I tried out infamous fad dieting programs.
NONE of those things produced results. The reason why they didn’t produce results was because they are all unnatural approaches to getting in shape, and our bodies will never respond the way we want it to, to anything that is unnatural.
What ended up happening?
Well, long story short, I ended up feeling tired a lot, I had terrible stomach pains, I felt hungry a lot, I had very strong craving urges, I ended up with joint problems (due to the extreme fitness routines), and so much more.
What did I do that helped me FINALLY get in shape?
One of the things I did was what I wanted to talk to you about today: I.A.O
What does that mean? What those initials stand for is to improvise, adapt, and overcome. I.A.O is something that the military preaches a lot to their soldiers… and for a good reason. This is because sometimes you’ll run into difficult situations where the normal approaches to things just won’t cut it, and you must be able to improvise, adapt, and overcome this difficult situation to keep moving forward to your goal.
So, what does this mean in the world of dieting and fitness?
Let’s briefly break it down:
Improvise – When you begin a diet and exercise program, most people have issues that could keep it complicated for you to stay consistent (busy lifestyle, joint problems, family life, school, work, business, etc.). This could be proper dieting (such as eating a small meal frequently throughout the day), and/or it could be fitting in an exercise routine. To improvise, you have to think of clever ways to be able to PROPERLY diet and exercise regardless of your day-to-day life.
For example, with dieting, I strongly recommend you go on a natural diet that is very simple to follow. Stay away from difficult diets or fad diets. I ended up finding an incredibly simple diet to follow, but yet it was incredibly powerful at bringing significant fat loss in a short time. To give you an idea of how simple this diet was, the overall basis of this program is to simply eat 4-6 meals a day, and then rotate how you eat nutrients every now and then to trick your metabolism into increasing. And that’s it!
Now with exercising, an example could be you not being able to get to the gym due to a busy lifestyle. A simple way to improvise with this situation is that you could easily do body-weight exercise routines at home in a circuit training format. This way you’ll combine both cardio and muscle-building into one exercise. It also takes less time to do, you don’t need any equipment, and you could do this anywhere and at any time. Also, body-weight exercises done without full movement BUT with proper form is great for those with joint problems (like for me with having patellar tendonitis in both of my knees!).
Adapt – Now that you have improvised a way to implement diet and exercise into your daily life, you now have to adapt to it. This means that with the changes you have made to be able to comfortably diet and exercise to reach your goals, be sure to adapt to these changes so that you’ll stay consistent with them.
Overcome – Since you have now improvised and adapted to your own customized way of dieting and exercising, you have now overcame any setback you either have already faced or could have ended up facing. Just understand that with overcoming, you have to make sure you stay consistent with what you have improvised and adapted to.
Bottom line, now matter what your lifestyle is, you can get the body of your dreams. The key is to improvise, adapt, and overcome with diet and exercise so that you can fit in all of the things you need to do in order to get the body you have wanted.
