If you are like me then you probably don’t enjoy endless hours on the treadmill, am I right? Traditional cardio sucks, and with the hectic pace of modern life, not everyone has 45 minutes to spare three times a week to make cardio pay off. Instead, I look for smarter ways of losing tummy fat, and one of the best ways I know is by including the Burpee exercise into my routines.
Don’t worry about the odd sounding name (it comes the man who made this exercise famous) this exercise will rock your body, check this out:
How To Do A Burpee Exercise
Start in a standing up position, arms at your side.
Drop into a squat, with your legs bent to your chest and your hands on the ground.
Kick your legs out straight behind you and drop your chest low to the ground, keeping yourself supported on your arms.
Bring your legs back up tight to your chest, while your hands remain on the ground.
Jump, pushing yourself as high up as you can.
As you might can tell, this exercise hits the entire body – your legs, arms, abs, and chest, and gets your heart pounding hard in a very short amount of time. This is good for you because you are building strength not only in your muscles, but in your heart and lungs too.
Traditional cardio is designed to get your heart rate up and burn calories, but one of the problems (aside from being extremely boring and dull!) is that once you stop doing the cardio exercise, you also stop burning calories. Once your heart rate returns to normal you are done. The more cardio you do, the more accustomed your body becomes to it, and the faster it returns to normal after you stop, so the effectiveness of cardio routines goes down the fitter you become.
With exercises like the Burpee, not only are you getting the cardio effect while you are performing the exercise, but you are also working on strengthening your muscles and internal organs – in effect you are building up extra lean tissue in your body. Lean tissue is what burns calories, and the more of it you have the more calories you burn. This is happening 24 hours a day just to keep your body functioning, so the more lean tissue in your body, the more calories you will burn all day long.
Doesn’t that sound like a better approach to lose tummy fat than the treadmill? It sure does to me.
