5 Recipes To Help You Lose 5 Pounds

When you want to lose 5 pounds quickly, you know that eating out at fast food restaurants is not going to be your best choice. Yes, there is Subway, but after a while that gets tiring or sometimes it is just not available. What is your alternative? Here I am giving you 5 recipes that are quick, easy, and tasty! A triple win!

Don’t be afraid to just jump in there. If you ever watched the Biggest Loser TV show, you know that all those folks learn how to work in their home kitchens. So make it fun and enjoy the process. You could even pay yourself $3 for each meal you eat at home and watch your savings mount. Then once you lose 5 pounds, take your money and go treat yourself to a spa treatment or a special trinket you had your eye on but didn’t want to spend the money on yourself.

Protein Packed One Pot

26 oz jar of any salsa (I use Great Value brand from Walmart)

1 pound extra lean ground turkey, cooked, broken up as for tacos etc.

1 cup cooked brown rice

24 oz carton fat-free cottage cheese

Throw it all together in a bowl, stir, and cook!

That’s it! You can eat it as is with low-fat tortilla chips, you can add more veggies or try different cheeses added in the end as a topper. Very versatile, tasty and filling.

To Die For Roast

1 pk Ranch salad dressing mix

1 pk brown gravy

1 pk Italian dressing mix

1 beef roast

1/2 cup water

Cook on low all day….doesn’t get easier than this… then you have meat left over for sandwich’s hot or cold.

If you are watching your salt intake, you may want to substitute Herb-ox sodium free beef broth for on e of the dressing mixes. You will get the flavor without the salt. I would still keep one of the dressings. You are effectively lowering the salt by half.

Balsamic Roasted Carrots

8 med carrots, quartered

1 T. oil

1 T. balsamic vinegar

Salt and Pepper to taste

Toss together above 3 items and then over the carrots.

Roast in oven for 15 -20 minutes at 350.

Author’s note: I tell my grandson they are space discs from outer space…and he loves it…eats them right up.

Sausage and Squash Casserole

1 lb. sausage (ground or links cubed)

1/2 cup chopped onion, more if you like

1 cup chopped green bell peppers, more if you like

3 large yellow or zucchini squash, peeled, sliced,

2 cups low-fat cheddar cheese

2 1/2 cups barley (pre-cooked)

1 (6 oz.) plain yogurt

10 reduced fat potato chips – Cape Cod Brand – crushed

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large skillet brown sausage, onions and peppers. Pour off drippings. Stir in squash, 2 cups cheese, 2 cups barley and yogurt. Mix well and pour into a 2 quart casserole dish sprayed with non-stick spray. Bake 20 minutes. Remove from oven and top with 1 cup cheese, remainder of barley and crushed potato chips. Bake another 5-10 minutes or until cheese melts. If chips start browning too quickly, cover dish loosely with foil. Serves 6-8 as a main dish.

A Fast Shrimp Dish Saute 3 garlic cloves in cilantro, cumin, coriander, tabasco, turmeric, and no salt vegetarian seasoning mix…….in 3 T.. of Olive oil.

Stir in one chopped red onion…cook 4 minutes

Add in 1 chopped apple…your choice…I used gala

Cook 4 minutes

The add 1/2 cup plain non fat yogurt and let it sit for 5 minutes.

Then add shrimp and cook, stirring occasionally, for 8 minutes.

Serve over your favorite grain, rice, or high fiber spaghetti
