Bad habits are one of the things that got you in the position where you had to lose weight in the first place. However, and unfortunately, many people end up with or continue with a set of specific bad habits during their diet that keeps them from getting little to no results. I should know… I used to do these things myself!
See if you are doing one of these bad habits below that may be slowing down (or stopping) your weight loss progress… and what I highly recommend you do instead…
1. Adding unhealthy additives to your foods and drinks – Condiments are a dieter’s (and non-dieter’s for that matter) nightmare. Ketchup, mayo, sugar, cream, are all things that are LOADED with EMPTY calories and tons of bad stuff (simple carbs, sodium, etc.).
In a given day, you could literally consume 500 or more calories of just condiments! Now just imagine what all that is doing to your body negatively. Now imagine how many calories you’ll save and how quicker you’ll lose weight (and improve your overall health) if you eliminate or switch out those condiments to healthier versions?
2. Weighing yourself too much – Results is the secret to getting a TON of motivation to stick with anything in life. If you see or feel results with your body, you can certainly count on yourself staying motivated. However, if you weigh yourself too much… and you don’t see the type of results you want on the scale… you will more than likely lose motivation… and may ultimately give up.
What I recommend you do is to first off only weigh yourself once a week (and preferably first thing in the morning before you have eaten anything). Secondly, the best way to measure your progress is by seeing how your clothes fit, and seeing how you look in the mirror. The reason why is because your weight may not always tell you that you are progressing. And that’s because muscle weighs more than fat, and you may have put on muscle and burned off fat. And there certainly isn’t anything wrong with that!
3. Skipping breakfast – By ignoring the most important meal of the day, you are putting yourself in a position where you will crave carbs like crazy later in the day, you’ll slow your metabolism down (which leads to fat storage instead of fat loss), you’ll lose natural energy, and more. The solution is simple: Eat a healthy breakfast every morning!
4. Eating a mega dinner – Due to skipping breakfast and eating like a bird throughout the day, most people end up starving by the time dinner rolls around. Therefore, they end up eating a HUGE dinner! This ends up causing issues with your digestive system, it will slow your metabolism down, and it can cause you to get sugar cravings late at night… plus more!
What I recommend you do instead to firstly ensure you follow tip #3 above in regards to never skipping breakfast. Secondly, I recommend that you go on some type of diet program that is based around eating smaller meals more often throughout the day (which could even be something as simple as a nutritious protein shake for a meal or two). The amount of meals you should be eating should be around 4-6. This will boost your metabolism, keep you feeling full, and will do wonders for your digestive system.
